In a move designed to support impoverished widows, the Uttar Pradesh government has disbursed the third installment of pension to over 29 lakh destitute women ahead of Diwali. This initiative, part of the Nirashrit Mahila Pension Yojana, reflects the state's commitment to aiding the financially vulnerable.
Launched under the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the scheme provides a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 to widows aged 18 and above with an annual family income cap of Rs 2 lakh. To qualify, beneficiaries must not be recipients of other central or state government pensions. The scheme serves as a critical financial lifeline for these women.
The pension distribution, which is integrated with the Aadhaar-based Payment System and the Public Financial Management System (PFMS), ensures direct bank transfers, promoting transparency and prompt access to funds. In the 2024-25 fiscal year, pensions were disbursed in three installments, totaling significant financial aid to millions of beneficiaries.
