Tripura paralyzed as trade unions' strike hits operations

A nationwide two-day shutdown called by ten central trade unions in protest against "pro-corporate, anti-workers and anti-people policies" of the BJP-led NDA government, affected normal life in the BJP-ruled Tripura on Tuesday. Many markets, shops and business establishments were closed and most private and passenger vehicles remained off the roads. Government offices functioned through a few employees remained absent due to various reasons, including transport problems.

Many schools and educational institutions also remained open. Most banks, financial institutions remained shut as several organisations of banks and financial institutions called a shutdown on Tuesday and Wednesday. Flights operated to-and-from Agartala while the Northeast Frontier Railways operated their trains with less passengers. A police officer said there were no untoward incidents reported from any part of the state.
