The Indian government has commenced the procurement process for surveillance helicopters, issuing a Request for Information (RFI) with a focus on indigenous manufacturing through the 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiatives.
According to the RFI, the Ministry of Defence is looking to set service requirements, decide on the procurement category, and identify potential Indian vendors able to supply the helicopters within two years of receiving the contract.
The helicopters need to operate in various terrains, including plains, deserts, and high altitudes, and must be adaptable for future technological upgrades.
