In a heated session of the Lok Sabha, DMK MP Kanimozhi vehemently criticized Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for allegedly bypassing crucial issues during a debate on the Union Budget. She accused Sitharaman of delivering politically charged responses while neglecting significant questions posed by parliamentarians.
Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav joined the fray by pointing out the lack of government funding for the Maha Kumbh Mela, an event occurring after 144 years. NK Premachandran of the Revolutionary Socialist Party also expressed disappointment, deeming Sitharaman's budgetary explanations factually misleading regarding state allocations.
Defending her stance, Finance Minister Sitharaman outlined the government's capital budget strategy, underscoring the use of borrowed resources primarily for capital expenditure. She projected a capital expenditure of Rs15.48 lakh crore for 2025-26, aligning it closely with the fiscal deficit target and marking an increase from the previous year.
