Guillain-Barre Syndrome Claims More Lives in Maharashtra, Government Tightens Control

A 53-year-old patient died from Guillain-Barre Syndrome at Nair Hospital in Mumbai, announced the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. This brings the death toll in Maharashtra from the rare neurological disorder to eight.
As of February 11, Maharashtra health department reports a total of 192 suspected Guillain-Barre Syndrome cases, with 172 confirmed and seven previous deaths. Pune and its surrounding areas are severely affected.
Pune Municipal Corporation sealed 30 private water supply plants linked to the GBS outbreak in Pune. Testing revealed these plants lacked proper permissions and contained high levels of contaminants, prompting swift action by the authorities.
