Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Tejasvi Surya soared into the skies aboard the HTT-40, India's fully indigenous Basic Trainer Aircraft, during the Aero Show on Thursday. His successful sortie underscores a significant journey from foreign reliance to self-sufficiency in India's aviation landscape.
The HTT-40, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force, features a four-bladed turbo-prop engine and a modern glass cockpit. This development aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative, steering India away from scandals and dependency under previous regimes to self-reliance.
Surya commemorated the effort as a tribute to the late Shri Manohar Parrikar, whose vision was crucial in the HTT-40’s revival. The aircraft also symbolizes India's evolving role as a global aerospace contender, appealing to several nations interested in Indian-made fighter jets, particularly in the Global South.
