Controversy Erupts Over JPC Report on Waqf Bill Amid Opposition Uproar

In a dramatic development, DMK MP Mohd Abdulla announced on Thursday that his party would not endorse the Joint Parliamentary Committee's report on the Waqf Bill, following reports that portions opposing the bill were excluded. Abdulla stated they would appeal the report's validity to top parliamentary officials.

The discontent echoed through the Rajya Sabha as opposition members vociferously protested the JPC report. Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the omission of dissenting remarks as an undemocratic act, condemning any report lacking transparency and urging for its revision.

Meanwhile, JPC Chairman Jagadambika Pal defended the comprehensive efforts behind the report. He emphasized the inclusion of dissent as an appendix entry, asserting the adoption of 25 amendments designed to address longstanding issues within the Waqf Act, while confirming stakeholder consultations.
