The Airport Authority of India's Director, Mohammad Arif, confirmed the ambitious plan to expand Bagdogra Airport with a new terminal building, targeting completion by March 2027. The expansive project encompasses a first-phase terminal area of 70,400 square meters, with an additional 50,000 square meters slated for the second phase.
Arif detailed that the project, valued at Rs 1,560 crore, will undergo a two-part tender process: one focusing on the terminal itself and the other dedicated to airside infrastructure improvements. Currently, excavation work is underway, and all available resources have been mobilized to ensure the deadline is met.
BJP Darjeeling MP Raju Bista lauded the government's efforts, highlighting that the new terminal will be ten times larger than the existing facility. He emphasized the development's potential to increase both national and international flight frequency. Prime Minister Narendra Modi further endorsed the expansion by laying the foundation stone, marking a significant milestone for future airport enhancements.
