Kamal Haasan, the actor-turned-politician, addressed party cadres in Chennai on Friday, marking the 8th foundation day of his party, Makkal Needhi Maiyam (MNM), with a focus on linguistic pride. Celebrating the occasion, Haasan unfurled the party flag at MNM's headquarters in the city.
Haasan highlighted the challenges Tamilians face in preserving their language, citing Tamil Nadu's past struggles against Hindi imposition. He warned against underestimating language issues, stressing the historical sacrifices made for linguistic autonomy. "Tamilians have lost lives for language. They know which language they need," he emphasized.
Amid criticism calling him a "failed politician," Haasan shared reflections on his political journey, expressing regret for not entering politics earlier. "I feel I lost because I entered politics too late. If it had been 20 years ago, things might have been different," he admitted.
Looking ahead, Haasan outlined MNM's political ambitions, aiming for a strong presence in Parliament and future state Assembly elections. He motivated party workers to prepare for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu elections, emphasizing their crucial role. "We are like a growing child. Our voice will be heard in Parliament and reflected in the Assembly," he stated.
