In a major development, the Punjab Police's Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Amritsar has seized an additional two kilograms of heroin, which raises the total recovery to 15 kilograms in a high-profile drug trafficking case, announced the Information And Public Relations Department, Punjab, on Saturday.
The contraband was discovered concealed near a canal in the village of Boparai Baj Singh. This discovery was made based on a confession by Harmandeep Singh, the accused in the case. Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, confirmed the recovery, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the region.
This seizure comes shortly after Punjab Police disrupted a cross-border smuggling operation, arresting Harmandeep Singh and recovering 10 kilograms of heroin from him. Further investigation led to the arrest of his accomplice, Lovepreet Singh, with three additional kilograms of heroin. The latest discovery was made following Harmandeep's revelation about the remaining drugs concealed under a canal-side brick.
The CI Amritsar teams acted swiftly on the lead, retrieving the hidden drugs from the location specified by the accused. According to DGP Yadav, the heroin is believed to be part of a larger consignment smuggled from Pakistan through drones, with involvement from a Pakistani smuggler known as Chacha Bawa.
Authorities continue their investigation to identify and capture more individuals linked to the drug smuggling network. A case has been filed under several sections of the NDPS Act at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar, and additional recoveries are anticipated as the investigation unfolds.
