Iraq's Commitment to OPEC+: A Strategy to Balance Oil Production and Exports

Iraq confirmed its dedication to the OPEC+ agreement this Monday, stating intentions to present a revised plan addressing any previous overproduction, as revealed by the Iraqi oil ministry.

Conversations took place between Iraq's oil minister and Saudi Arabia's Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, and OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al-Ghais. Iraq remains focused on balancing accumulated overproduction with expected oil exports from the Kurdistan Regional Government, even as OPEC+ plans April supply increases.

Challenges linger, notably the stalled oil exports from Kurdistan, contingent upon Turkey's consent following a two-year hiatus. Meanwhile, the U.S. administration is reportedly pressuring Iraq to resume Kurdish oil exports or face sanctions, although Iraqi officials later denied such assertions.
