In a fervent defense, Himachal Pradesh's Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Tuesday refuted criticisms from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's recent private trip to the Maldives. Thakur dismissed the claims of government-funded travel as narrow-minded assertions.

Thakur argued that the Chief Minister's visit was personal, questioning whether BJP leaders never take private trips. He highlighted the state's educational initiatives, noting increased international exposure for students and teachers. He pointed out that 118 teachers traveled abroad last year to enhance learning, with 150 set to follow suit this year.

Thakur also addressed the financial burdens inherited from the previous BJP administration, citing a colossal debt of Rs 75,000 crore. He criticized the opposition for failing to support state welfare and called for non-partisan aid from the central government. Highlighting educational reforms, Thakur praised the improved efficiency from school consolidations.
