Bharatiya Janata Party MP Saumitra Khan has launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her comments regarding the Maha Kumbh festival, accusing her of insulting millions of Hindus.

Khan's aggressive remarks came after Banerjee questioned the 144-year claim attached to the religious event, suggesting that there were inaccuracies in such statements. Her demarcation between respecting the religious significance and criticizing the event's management drew ire from BJP leaders, including actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty.

Banerjee clarified her stance, emphasizing that her concerns were strictly about the event's logistical shortcomings, urging the Uttar Pradesh government to address compensation issues for the victims of the stampede. Despite her clarifications, BJP continued to demand accountability for what they deemed disrespectful remarks.
