In a determined bid to bring the perpetrator to justice, Pune City Police have ramped up efforts to locate the suspect in the highly publicized Swargate bus depot rape case. The accused, Dattatray Ramdas Gade, has evaded capture since the incident on Tuesday. Police announced a Rs one lakh cash reward for anyone providing information that leads to Gade's arrest.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Smartana Patil revealed that a total of 13 police teams, consisting of eight from the Crime Branch and five from Swargate Police Station, have been dispatched to track down the suspect. The investigation has extended beyond district borders, according to police officials, reflecting the urgency and scale of the manhunt.
Patil acknowledged the challenges faced by the police, noting that the suspect wore a mask during the crime, complicating identification efforts. However, with additional evidence on hand, the police express confidence in their ability to apprehend him. Concurrently, Maharashtra's Transport Minister ordered a departmental inquiry into the response of bus depot officials, signaling accountability for security lapses at the facility.
