Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, asserted on Tuesday that there is no proposal to establish a new police district in Uri of Jammu and Kashmir. This clarification came in response to a query from Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh during the Lok Sabha session.

In related developments, Rai disclosed that the Lakshadweep Administration has awarded permissions to local accommodation boards across all islands to consider housing requests from contract employees after addressing the needs of regular staff. The arrangement allows for quarter allotments at three times the standard license fee, akin to charges for higher-category government accommodations.

The Union Minister also tabled the Immigration and Foreigners Bill 2025 in Lok Sabha, a move aimed at updating India's immigration framework. Presented on behalf of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the bill seeks to streamline passport and visa procedures, granting regulatory powers over visa and foreigner-related matters. The bill faces opposition from Congress MP Manish Tewari who argues it contravenes constitutional rights.
