Delhi Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma was sworn in as a member of the New Delhi Municipal Council on Tuesday. The ceremony was attended by BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj and NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal.
Minister Verma announced that 9,000 new water connections would be implemented in the coming months, focusing on 34 slum clusters facing severe water issues. The initiative is expected to benefit around 4,700 residents, providing them with clean and safe water. A committee has also been established to promote renewable energy, with plans to make solar panel installation compulsory. Additionally, a proposal is in place for NDMC to procure cheaper electricity for the benefit of its customers.
The minister addressed ongoing concerns such as waterlogging, outlining a summer action plan that includes desilting and installing water harvesting systems. To maintain clean roads, an encroachment drive is scheduled, alongside the installation of CCTV cameras to bolster area security. Verma also reviewed the Yamuna cleaning campaign, attributing accelerated progress to the BJP government, contrasting it with a decade of inaction by the previous administration.
