Border Vigilance Tightened: 2,601 Bangladeshi Citizens Caught Crossing into India

A report from the Ministry of Home Affairs has revealed that a total of 2,601 Bangladeshi citizens were apprehended while attempting to cross into Indian territory over the last 13 months. The figures, presented to the Rajya Sabha by Union Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai, cover the period from January 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025.
The data highlights efforts by the Border Security Force (BSF) to curb illegal crossings, with 176 Bangladeshis apprehended in January 2025. The monthly totals fluctuated throughout 2024, peaking at 331 in October and falling to a low of 32 in May. The government has bolstered the border security framework through advanced surveillance technology, increased personnel, and strategic measures.
The Minister emphasized the use of equipment like Hand-Held Thermal Imagers, Night Vision Devices, and UAVs, alongside improved border infrastructure with the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS). Additional steps include continuous patrolling, deployment of dog squads, and engaging local communities to enhance security.
