In a significant political milestone, Delhi's BJP-led government has presented its first Budget in over 26 years, with an unprecedented outlay of Rs 1 lakh crore for the financial year 2025-26. Presented by Chief Minister and Finance Minister Rekha Gupta, the Budget represents a 31.5% increase from the previous fiscal year's allocation.
Chief Minister Gupta hailed the Budget as a 'historic' turning point, marking the end of a 'corruption and inefficiency' era. The government plans to double capital expenditure to Rs 28,000 crore, focusing on infrastructure projects such as roads, sewer systems, and water supply, reflecting a commitment to revamping the city's foundational services.
The Budget identifies ten key focus areas including electricity, roads, water, and connectivity. A significant allocation of Rs 1,000 crore is designated for enhancing transport links within Delhi-NCR. In terms of welfare, Rs 5,100 crore is earmarked for financial assistance to women, while Rs 2,144 crore is set aside for healthcare improvements under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
