CPI Member of Parliament P Sandosh Kumar has voiced concerns regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill, emphasizing the matter transcends religious boundaries and touches on the core values of India's secularism. Kumar's remarks came amid protests from the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), who urged Muslims to don black armbands as a symbolic gesture against the bill.
AIMPLB's call saw noticeable participation, with many adherents in cities like Lucknow and Hyderabad wearing the armbands during Friday prayers. Notable figures such as AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi joined the demonstration in Hyderabad, alongside hundreds of followers. Police presence was heightened in these areas to ensure peace.
In Lucknow, AIMPLB member Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahli, along with other Muslim representatives, raised their voices against proposed amendments, citing the protection of Waqf properties. AIMPLB attributed the amendments to a conspiracy hindering Muslim religious entities. Despite the bill's aim to rectify management and transparency issues, resistance reflects fears of losing cultural heritage.
