In the wake of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar has been closed indefinitely. This decision follows precision strikes by the Indian Army on Pakistani terror camps. Confirmed by Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Sirivennela, all flights have been suspended, and passengers have been advised to evacuate the premises.
According to Sirivennela, the situation extends beyond Amritsar, with flight operations ceased in Delhi as well. Passengers already at the airport were asked to leave, and vehicles cleared, pending further updates from central authorities on resumption of services. Communication lapses have added to the confusion, leaving many travelers uninformed about the suspension.
On the diplomatic front, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has discussed India's calculated actions to counteract cross-border terrorism with Qatar's Prime Minister. The recent Indian military operation, 'Operation Sindoor', targeted nine terror sites within Pakistani territory, successfully neutralizing them without civilian casualties. This operation was a response to the brutal Pahalgam attack intended to destabilize the region.
