The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) Drivers and Conductors' Union has issued an ultimatum to the state government and HRTC management, threatening to limit work hours to eight per day from August 1 if their long-standing demands are not met by July 31. The union is pressing for issues such as pending Dearness Allowance (DA), overdue salaries, and medical reimbursements.
Man Singh Thakur, the union's president, confirmed that a formal notice was given on July 11, allowing sufficient time for the demands to be addressed. Complaints include delayed salaries, unresolved pension issues, and a lack of compensation for night duties. Thakur argued that financial stability is crucial for employees.
A meeting took place on Wednesday between the HRTC management and the union, during which the Managing Director heard the grievances. However, financial issues like pensions remain pending with the Deputy Chief Minister, who is yet to arrange a meeting before the set deadline. The union is ready to intensify its protest if conditions do not improve by July 31.
