Harish Duhan, the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), underscored the ongoing importance of coal in India's energy ecosystem during an event celebrating coal workers.
Despite a national push towards renewable energy sources, Duhan highlighted coal's critical role in supporting various sectors, including industries, households, and infrastructure, amidst the country's energy demands and climate commitments.
The event, held on Vishwakarma Jayanti and aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, recognized the contributions of 75 coal workers. Union Minister Tokhan Sahu commended SECL for instituting the Vishwakarma Awards to honor these workers, emphasizing coal's role in achieving an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
