Deadly Cough Syrup Sparks Investigation Amidst Tragic Child Deaths

Authorities are investigating a cough syrup linked to the deaths of children in Jabalpur, India. Six children died in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district due to kidney complications. Samples of the syrup have been sent for testing. Officials are probing the causes, suspecting contaminated medication.

Samples of a cough syrup suspected to be connected to the deaths of several children have been collected from a pharmaceutical unit in Jabalpur. The laboratory testing of the samples was announced by Sharad Kumar Jain, a Drug Inspector.

Reports disclosed that multiple children fell critically ill and were transferred to Nagpur, where the situation tragically ended in their deaths. Investigations suggest the children were administered a cold relief syrup manufactured in Jabalpur, as evidenced by 660 bottles purchased by the premise's proprietor. Out of these, 594 bottles were distributed to distributors in Chhindwara, while 66 remained in the unit, and 16 were sent for testing while the rest were barred from sale.

Authorities, including the Centre and the State, are intensifying efforts to uncover the causes of the illnesses, believed to originate from compromised kidney function linked to the syrup. Dr. Naresh Gunnade noted that a special ward was established as investigations continue, seeking to comprehend the underlying issues behind such severe reactions.
