In a groundbreaking move towards enhancing police transparency and accessibility, the Gujarat government unveiled i-Pragati Intelligent Progress Reporting And Grievance Addressing through Technology. Announced by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in May 2025, this cutting-edge initiative enables citizens to monitor their complaints in real time without frequenting police stations.

The i-Pragati system provides real-time updates on complaints and FIR progress through mobile notifications. Upon lodging an FIR, complainants receive a confirmation message, followed by regular updates on developments such as panchnama, charge sheets, and arrest statuses, offering a seamless experience from filing to resolution.

A milestone in digitalizing police-citizen interactions, i-Pragati strengthens accountability. Director General of Police Vikas Sahay emphasized that each FIR triggers automatic SMS notifications, ensuring citizens are informed of every step of policing processes. The initiative is backed by the State Crime Records Bureau's Help Desk Centre, maintaining a digital database for Gujarat's police records.

The Citizen Portal further empowers users to register complaints, track case statuses, and utilize other police services online. Since its launch, i-Pragati has been lauded by the public for reducing stress in law enforcement interactions. According to government data, the system dispatched over 1.59 lakh FIR alerts, 1.65 lakh panchnama notifications, 1.58 lakh arrest updates, and 1.63 lakh charge sheet messages between May and August 2025.

By integrating technology into policing, i-Pragati exemplifies how digital governance can bolster public service accountability, optimize processes, and build stronger citizen-state trust. (ANI)
