The Election Commission of India has announced a significant increase in the remuneration for Booth Level Officers, raising their pay from Rs 6000 to Rs 12000. Supervisors involved in the preparation and revision of electoral rolls will also see their remuneration increased from Rs 12000 to Rs 18000, according to a press release issued on Saturday.
Further, the Commission is introducing an honorarium for Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers for the first time. 'Pure electoral rolls are the bedrock of democracy', said the release, emphasizing the indispensable work of electoral roll machinery personnel in ensuring impartial and transparent electoral rolls.
The last time such an adjustment was made was in 2015. To further incentivize the work, the Commission announced a special Rs 6000 incentive for BLOs engaged in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), which commenced in Bihar. The second phase of SIR is now underway across 12 states and Union Territories, with the final voter list to be published on February 7, 2026.
