In an unprecedented turmoil in India's aviation sector, IndiGo Airlines has sparked widespread passenger outrage by canceling over 1,000 flights, primarily originating from Delhi Airport. The airline's CEO, Peter Elbers, has expressed deep regret, stating that operations are expected to normalize between December 10 and 15.
The disruption, attributed to mismanagement following the introduction of new flight duty time limitation (FDTL) regulations, has intensified public ire. Frustrated passengers have engaged in heated altercations with airline staff at major airports nationwide as IndiGo struggles with crew scheduling issues.
Responding to the crisis, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu criticized IndiGo's handling of the regulation changes. To mitigate passenger inconvenience, the ministry temporarily relaxed FDTL norms for IndiGo, aiming for broader resolution while also forming a committee to investigate the crisis thoroughly.
