The Citizen Action Party-Sikkim (CAP-Sikkim) has called on the Election Commission of India (ECI) to include key state-specific identity documents in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
A delegation from the party, including Vice Presidents Bhushan Adhikari, Deepndra Rai, and Kiran Zimba, along with District President Jorbu Tsh. Lepcha, approached the Chief Electoral Officer in Gangtok on December 4.
According to a press release, the party stressed the necessity of incorporating the Sikkim Subject Certificate (SSC) and Certificate of Identification (COI) for ensuring accuracy and transparency in the electoral rolls. The leaders urged the commission to exercise special care due to Sikkim's unique constitutional protections under Article 371F.
CAP-Sikkim is also advocating for public awareness drives to inform citizens about the revision's objectives, necessary documentation, and the process of enrollment and verification.
The party expressed optimism that its concerns will be addressed, ensuring the revision respects constitutional provisions and the sentiments of Sikkim's people.
