Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, voiced strong objections to what he termed 'narrative colonisation' by countries with historically high emissions. Speaking at the centenary event of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Adani highlighted how these nations, while previously contributing significantly to global pollution, now dictate environmental policies to developing countries like India.

Adani emphasized the importance of India defining its own growth trajectory, particularly amid global alliances fraying. He underscored India's responsibility to prioritize sovereignty over its natural resources and energy systems, which he labelled as crucial for economic independence.

Pointing to India's relatively low per-capita emissions and electricity consumption, Adani criticized sustainability metrics that ignore historical emissions and per-capita data, arguing they unfairly penalize developing nations like India. He urged for a focus on resource sovereignty and innovative advances in mining and energy systems as a pathway to secure future growth.
