NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, credits the BJP-led government's infrastructure advancements for unprecedented growth in India's tourism sector. Speaking at a news conference on Friday, Shekhawat emphasized the significant transformations over the past eleven years in roadways, railways, and waterways, which have notably boosted the economy and tourism.

Addressing the media at FICCI's 98th Annual General Meeting, Shekhawat projected a compound annual growth rate exceeding 20% in tourism, citing Ahmedabad's landmark achievement in securing the 2030 Commonwealth Games as a catalyst for further growth. He stressed that such events create a multiplier effect boosting the tourism industry's potential in India.

In 2023, India welcomed 18.89 million international tourists, generating Rs. 231927 Crore in foreign exchange earnings. Initiatives like the 'Chalo India' campaign and 'Incredible India Content Hub' aim to increase global tourism appeal, while investments in iconic tourist centers and community-based engagements are designed to enhance the local tourism landscape.
