The Lakshadweep Islands have taken a significant step towards bolstering their blue economy by hosting a pioneering investors' meet aimed at enhancing the fisheries and aquaculture sector. Organized jointly by the Centre and the Lakshadweep administration, the event focused on attracting investments and tackling existing challenges within the industry.
The meet, held at Bangaram Island, witnessed the participation of Union ministers, investors, and local stakeholders who discussed fostering sustainable growth through strategic investments in sashimi-grade tuna production, fish oil refining, and ornamental fish breeding. An investment of Rs 519 crore has been projected, signaling a positive outlook for the region's economic prospects.
Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh emphasized the importance of legal fishing in India's Exclusive Economic Zone, which could support high-value exports. Meanwhile, Administrator Praful Patel spoke of upcoming infrastructure developments and urged investors to leverage government schemes for developing Lakshadweep's rich fishery resources. The session marked a promising start towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a blue revolution.
