Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has officially launched the City Beautification Drive under the My City Campaign in Mawlai, signaling a major stride toward enhancing community-led urban development. The initiative partners with Dorbar Shnong institutions to create cleaner, litter-free neighborhoods while reinforcing the government's emphasis on participatory governance and grassroots engagement.

On Wednesday, as part of the initiative, the Chief Minister distributed beautification grants ranging from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1,00,000 to 60 localities to support community-driven efforts in public space enhancement. Additionally, he inaugurated a new CCTV surveillance system at Mawlai Mawroh and marked the launch of the beautification drive with a symbolic painting at Mawlai Bridge, Iewrynghep, covering regions under Mawlai Mawroh and Mawlai Iewrynghep.

Highlighting the government's shift toward participatory democracy, Sangma described the program as a distinctive 'CM Connect Event' designed to foster two-way communication between government officials and citizens. Emphasizing the importance of community-driven development, he noted, 'Real governance and grassroots governance occur when there is interaction, communication, and actions taken on suggestions.'
