Reviving Gongri: A Milestone in Clean Energy for India's Northeast

Patel Engineering announced a landmark agreement with the Arunachal Pradesh government to restore and develop the 144 MW Gongri Hydropower Project. This collaboration represents a key step forward in advancing clean energy infrastructure in India's Northeast, signaling a new era in sustainable development.
The Gongri project, situated near Dirang town on the Gongri River, had previously been terminated. However, it has now been revived under the 'Arunachal Pradesh Restoration of Terminated Large Hydropower Policy under Special Circumstances, 2025.' With an estimated project value of Rs 1,700 crore, the development is set to take approximately four years to complete.
By executing the project on a BOOT basis for a 40-year lease period, Patel Engineering aims to generate clean energy, provide employment, improve local infrastructure, and facilitate socio-economic benefits for local communities. The project includes designing, engineering, and installing necessary systems, and post-commissioning operations and maintenance.
