In a disturbing incident in Surat, a 31-year-old woman named Pratimadevi tragically died after self-immolating in her home due to a marital dispute. Her husband, Ranjit Saha, instead of intervening, recorded the horrific event on his mobile phone. This action prompted authorities to arrest him on allegations of cruelty and abetment of suicide.
The incident occurred on January 4, following an altercation between the couple, originally from Bihar, concerning a trivial matter related to their children. It was alleged that Saha incited his wife by suggesting she set herself on fire. Following her death, a police investigation commenced after suspicions were raised by the victim's brother.
On January 11, days after being hospitalized for severe burns, Pratimadevi succumbed to her injuries. The couple had a tumultuous relationship, having eloped for a love marriage in 2013 before settling in Surat with their three children. This tragedy highlights the deep-seated issues within their marriage, leading to a devastating conclusion.
