On Friday, Delhi's Patiala House court issued a notice to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) concerning a plea made by Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh, also known as Engineer Rashid. He seeks interim bail or custody parole to attend the upcoming parliament budget session scheduled from January 28 to April 2. Special NIA Judge Prashant Sharma has sought a response from the NIA regarding the plea, as Rashid remains in judicial custody over a terror funding case.
The court has set January 21 as the date for hearing the plea, which was submitted through advocate Vikhyat Oberoi, with advocate Nishita Gupta representing Abdul Rashid Sheikh during proceedings. Previously, Rashid was granted custody parole to attend parliament sessions, participate in the Vice Presidential election, and take his oath following his election as an MP. Rashid serves as an MP from Baramulla, Jammu, and Kashmir, and he has a pending application for modifying the cost associated with custody parole to attend parliamentary sessions before the Delhi High Court.
On November 7, the Delhi High Court's division bench delivered a split verdict on Rashid's application, leaving the matter pending before a single-judge bench for further consideration.
