The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert on Tuesday for expected moderate snowfall across several districts in Himachal Pradesh. The forecast includes light to moderate rain and snowfall over the next six hours, with potential intense spells in certain areas such as Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, and the higher reaches of Chamba, Kangra, and Kullu districts.
According to the IMD's Shimla Meteorological Centre, light to moderate precipitation is expected across these regions, but heavy snow or rain could occur at some locations, impacting areas particularly in Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti. The weather forecast anticipates dry conditions on January 29, with a return of light precipitation between January 30 and February 1.
The cold wave conditions persist, particularly affecting low hills and plains from January 28. Over 1,250 roads have been closed due to heavy snowfall, severely disrupting daily life. Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh has assured ongoing efforts to restore connectivity, deploying snow blowers and machinery to clear blocked roads.
