In a call to modernize India's agriculture sector, MeitY Secretary S Krishnan has emphasized the role of artificial intelligence in bridging information disparities that continue to affect farmers. Speaking at the AI Impact Summit, Krishnan highlighted the breakdown of traditional extension networks, which have shifted their focus away from providing timely advisory support to farmers.

Krishnan, also a registered farmer, stressed that accurate and actionable advice remains crucial for farming, yet it's the one area where the system fails consistently. He identified AI as a key tool in correcting these information asymmetries and enhancing the effectiveness of extension services, enabling real-time advisory support.

Additionally, Krishnan discussed the use of AI in improving agricultural credit access and its potential role in gender empowerment within rural communities.
