Uttar Pradesh Extends Deadline for Voter Roll Revision Amid Enhanced Verification Drive

The Election Commission of India has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections in Uttar Pradesh's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls to March 3, 2026. This decision, one of transparency and accuracy, aligns with efforts to involve citizens actively in verifying and updating voter lists.

In preparation for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Uttar Pradesh, a preemptive briefing session was conducted to ensure systematic compliance with constitutional guidelines. Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa emphasized the importance of this session in streamlining the revision process.

In a significant move, the Election Commission of India has extended the time frame for filing claims and objections related to the electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh. Originally slated to close on February 6, the period now extends to March 3, 2026, following the draft list's release on January 6. This extension, requested by the state's chief electoral officer, affords voters additional time to partake in the process actively.

The decision to extend the deadline is grounded in Rule 12 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
