In preparation for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Uttar Pradesh, a preemptive briefing session was conducted to ensure systematic compliance with constitutional guidelines. Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa emphasized the importance of this session in streamlining the revision process.

In a significant move, the Election Commission of India has extended the time frame for filing claims and objections related to the electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh. Originally slated to close on February 6, the period now extends to March 3, 2026, following the draft list's release on January 6. This extension, requested by the state's chief electoral officer, affords voters additional time to partake in the process actively.

The decision to extend the deadline is grounded in Rule 12 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. The extension seeks to ensure thorough verification and increased public participation, thereby upholding the Election Commission's commitment to accuracy and transparency in voter registrations ahead of impending elections.
