Security Boost: SPMCIL HQ Declared 'Prohibited Place'

The Ministry of Home Affairs has declared the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited headquarters in New Delhi a 'prohibited place' under the Official Secrets Act, 1923. This move enhances security around sensitive government facilities involved in currency and document production to prevent unauthorized access and potential threats.

In a significant security measure, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has designated the headquarters of the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL) in New Delhi as a 'prohibited place' under the stringent Official Secrets Act, 1923.

SPMCIL, a key player in the manufacture and production of currency notes, security paper, and official documents such as passports and visas, now falls under heightened security protocols. This wholly-owned Miniratna Category-I entity of the Indian government was incorporated in 2006, taking over nine production units from the Ministry of Finance.

The MHA's notification, issued on February 18, aims to preclude unauthorized access to the premises, emphasizing the need for precautionary security measures to protect critical government infrastructures from potential threats. This move underscores the strategic necessity of safeguarding establishments involved in high-security operations.
