In a landmark move, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann unveiled the 'Mukh Mantri Mawaan Dhian Satkar Yojna' on Sunday, fulfilling a major electoral promise by providing monthly financial support to women across the state.
Under this initiative, general category women will receive Rs 1,000 per month, while women from Scheduled Caste communities will benefit from Rs 1,500 per month. The state's budget has set aside Rs 9,300 crore for its successful implementation. Mann emphasized that this scheme aligns with the AAP government's broader 'Saari Guarantiyan Puri' Budget, which aims to empower women through various welfare measures such as free bus travel, free electricity, and cashless healthcare services.
Registration for the scheme is set to begin during Baisakhi, with plans for swift processing through special camps statewide. Mann has reassured that every woman over the age of 18 will be eligible for this scheme. Criticizing past administrations, he called this initiative a testament to the progress and prosperity of Punjab, contrasting it against previous budgets which he alleged were filled with empty promises.
