Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju is poised to initiate discussions regarding the contentious resolution aimed at the removal of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, as the opposition levels accusations of partisan behavior. The motion has garnered the support of 118 MPs, each raising concerns about the Speaker's alleged partiality, especially concerning Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi.
The debating floor will see remarks from notable BJP figures, including Anurag Thakur, Nishikant Dubey, Ravi Shankar Prasad, and Bhartruhari Mahtab, with Chirag Paswan of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) also expected to contribute, sources confirmed. Earlier, Minister Rijiju lambasted the Congress for purportedly advancing a baseless motion, cautioning that they would 'regret' challenging Speaker Birla's position.
Rijiju passionately defended the Speaker, labeling the motion a product of 'one man's stubbornness' without legitimate grounds. He asserted the BJP's readiness to tackle the motion comprehensively in the House and foresaw its eventual defeat. As the Budget Session's second part unfolds, Rijiju urged the Congress to rethink its approach to safeguarding constitutional roles and dignity amidst their criticisms of judiciary and electoral oversight bodies.
