In a charged atmosphere within India's Lok Sabha, Congress MPs Gaurav Gogoi, Manish Tewari, Deepender Singh Hooda, and Jothimani prepare to advocate for a resolution against Speaker Om Birla. This move follows accusations of Birla's 'partisan behaviour' towards the Opposition.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju is set to open the discussion, with BJP stalwarts Anurag Thakur, Nishikant Dubey, Ravi Shankar Prasad, and Bhartruhari Mahtab presenting their views. Meanwhile, Chirag Paswan of the Lok Janshakti Party will also weigh in.
Rijiju attacked the Congress's motives, describing the motion as baseless and intended to placate 'one man's stubbornness.' He insisted the BJP is ready to counter the allegations and foresaw the resolution's failure, marking the start of a contentious Budget Session.
The Congress claims include accusations against Birla for allegedly silencing Rahul Gandhi and suspending opposition MPs while favoring derogatory remarks from ruling party members.
Despite the BJP's strong rebuttal, opposition parties like the All India Trinamool Congress are backing the no-confidence motion, aligning with directives from Mamata Banerjee, signaling a rigorous parliamentary debate ahead.
