The government's recent decision to incorporate ingots and wafers into the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) marks a significant step in bolstering India's solar manufacturing capabilities. This inclusion aims to break the heavy import dependency and fortify the domestic market by establishing a more self-sufficient ecosystem.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has announced that the new order will come into effect on June 1, 2028. It mandates that all bids submitted post this date must include ALMM List III compliant wafers to ensure quality and reliability in solar projects.
Significant growth in solar manufacturing capacity has already been witnessed with ALMM Lists I and II, showcasing their effectiveness. Minister Pralhad Joshi highlights this strategic expansion as a move towards self-reliance, positioning India as a formidable player in the global renewable energy landscape.
