In a move towards sustainable energy, Matikhala village in Odisha's Ganjam district has emerged as a solar-powered settlement. This transition falls under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with nearly half of its households now featuring rooftop solar panels.
Officials have confirmed that 200 out of the 450 households have installed these systems, thanks to the Utility-Led Aggregation model, which encourages clean energy and reduces electricity expenses. The initiative was inaugurated by Ganjam Collector V Keerthi Vasan and Chhatrapur MLA Krushna Chandra Nayak, alongside Tata Power Southern Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPSODL).
Under the scheme, each household installs a 1 kW solar system. Beneficiaries contribute Rs 5,622 to the project costs, facilitated by Ganjam's district administration. TPSODL manages the execution, offering substantial warranties, while the local government advocates for broader solar adoption.
