South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India, has reported significant growth in its coal production and offtake metrics for the fiscal year 2025-26. The company registered a 5.26% increase in production, achieving a total of 176.2 million tonnes, while its coal offtake rose by 4.6% to 178.6 million tonnes. These achievements highlight SECL's robust performance amid increasing energy demands.
The company also set new records in overburden removal, clocking 364.3 million cubic metres, the highest in its history. SECL stands out as the only Coal India subsidiary showing positive growth across all key performance indicators, according to SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Harish Duhan. Despite facing operational and geographical challenges, the company's dedicated workforce has ensured consistent growth.
In addition to its production success, SECL has progressed in diversification projects, focusing on coal gasification, ultra-supercritical thermal power, coal washery development, and hydro-based energy solutions. These initiatives align with the evolving energy needs, underscoring SECL's commitment to contributing to national energy security while exploring future energy avenues.
