In a concerted effort to clamp down on the illegal arms trade, police have seized additional firearms from the Bhatpara area and apprehended two suspects, officials reported on Thursday. This operation forms part of a broader strategy to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons in the Barrackpore industrial region.
Law enforcement agencies disclosed that since 2019, several precincts—including Bhatpara, Jagaddal, and Titagarh—have emerged as hotspots for illegal arms activity. Despite state interventions aimed at deterring these operations, authorities continue to report instances of illegal arms trafficking.
Simultaneously, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Jalpaiguri Road station detained 14 Bangladeshi nationals aboard the Northeast Express, suspecting document fraud. The RPF, acting on intelligence, uncovered fake Aadhaar cards and foreign currency in possession of the detainees, raising questions about cross-border movement and security.
