Kerala's electricity consumption has surged to unprecedented levels as the state experiences intense heat waves. The state's power demand on April 14 reached a record high, according to Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty.

In his statement, Minister Krishnankutty revealed that the daily power consumption hit 112.52 million units, with Tuesday's peak hours seeing a demand of 6,012 MW, marking an all-time high.

This spike is attributed to the increased use of air conditioning and fans amid rising temperatures. Consumers are urged to use electricity wisely, especially during peak hours from 6 pm to 11 pm. Additionally, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has issued a heat alert for several districts with temperatures expected to exceed normal levels.
