In a passionate plea, Congress MP KC Venugopal has urged the government to retract the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026. He emphasized the importance of enacting the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023 without modifying the number of Lok Sabha seats.
Speaking from the Parliament precincts, Venugopal advocated for an all-party meeting to discuss the matter, suggesting that the opposition would back women's reservation with the current 543 seats. He warned against using women's reservation as a tool to disrupt democratic norms.
Citing concerns about the delay in implementing the reservation, Venugopal noted the necessity for action based on sincerity. Debate over potential Lok Sabha expansion grows, as additional opinions from Congress MP Hibi Eden reflect frustrations regarding perceived penalization of southern states.
