Kerala Faces Power Crunch: Overload, Supply Issues Intensify

Kerala is currently grappling with unexpected power interruptions due to system overloads triggered by heightened energy consumption, particularly during peak hours from 10 to 11 pm, says Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty.

The state's power demand has soared above 6,195 MW, exhausting existing power banking arrangements and intensifying pressure on the supply system. Approximately 70% of Kerala's electricity is sourced from outside, raising concerns about future energy stability.

The government is appealing to the Regulatory Commission for permission to purchase additional power at a higher cost while urging citizens to moderate their electricity usage. Minister Krishnankutty highlighted that this issue isn't exclusive to Kerala but is a broader national concern driven by natural factors.
