In a significant move, Minister of State for External Affairs and Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Kirti Vardhan Singh, is set to lead India's delegation at the Second International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) in New York. Scheduled from May 4 to 8, 2026, this forum, conducted under the auspices of the UN General Assembly, provides a crucial platform for intergovernmental discussion on the progress of the Global Compact on Migration and its relationship with the Sustainable Development Goals.

The forum will comprise diverse interactive multi-stakeholder round tables, a policy debate, and a plenary session, all leading to the adoption of a Progress Declaration. This forum follows the inaugural 2022 session where India made significant contributions toward enhancing the interests of its migrant community. During the event, Minister Singh will deliver India's National Statement at the Plenary session and host a side event titled "Leveraging Digital Innovation in Migration Governance - The e-Migrate Experience of India."

Additionally, Singh is slated to hold meetings with senior United Nations officials and ministers from other member states. In a prior visit, the Union Minister emphasized the spiritual ties between India and Myanmar at the Shwedagon Pagoda, a historical site of deep cultural significance, reflecting ongoing diplomatic relations and shared heritage.
