On Saturday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will commence his official tour of the Caribbean, visiting Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. Scheduled from May 2 to May 10, this tour highlights India's significant historical and cultural bonds with these nations, marked by the thriving Girmitiya communities.

The Ministry of External Affairs has reported that Jaishankar plans to meet the leaders of the three nations, discussing both bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest. The visit is an initiative to enhance the existing political engagement and fortify the longstanding cordial relations with these Caribbean countries.

Apart from formal discussions, the External Affairs Minister will engage with local business leaders and interact with the Indian diaspora. This initiative forms part of India's broader diplomatic strategy to deepen relationships with the Caribbean region. Previous high-level interactions, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visits, have laid a strong foundation for ongoing collaborations across diverse sectors.
